This year’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW) certainly took a different approach thanks to COVID-19, but designers presented many innovative and stylish looks that you can incorporate into your fall wardrobe. Read on how to learn how C.KING scarves can help you incorporate the now looks from NYFW into your fall wardrobe!
1. Bright Colors
Although fall is usually the season for muted shades of pumpkin and spicy browns, this year bright colors were seen on the runways from designers such as Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, and Sally LaPointe. This is great news if you’re a fan of our Kaleidoscope collection of scarves, which features virtually every color of the rainbow from bright teals to hot reds, cool greens and sunshiney yellows!
To dive into this fall trend, try a brightly colored standout piece in your outfit that picks up on one of the colors in the Kaleidoscope scarf. For example: a bright yellow crop top with tailored dark wash jeans and sleek neutral booties, with your scarf tossed over your shoulders or around your neck. For an extra punch of color, try dabbing on a bright lipstick in contrasting color to your top!
2. Mixing Patterns
Mixed patterns were all over the runways this year—florals with plaid, dots with stripes, and even patchworked prints a la Prada, etc. Made from original contemporary art, our scarves are known for their abstract patterns, which makes now the perfect time to try wearing them with other prints.
While this year, it seems anything goes with mixing prints, an easy way to experiment with this trend is to vary the pattern size. So, if you’re planning to don a C.KING scarf - which features larger, more abstract shapes - then look for a dress that has small florals or a pair of trousers with thin pinstripes.
3. Leather
Leather is always a fall staple, and this year is no different. However, the 2020 NYFW runways reimagined leather in layers, rather than standalone pieces. Think a leather dress with a leather jacket thrown on top, leather two-piece sets, etc.
While this look is dramatic and sensual, it can sometimes come across as a bit weighty and dense. Silk can be a nice contrast. So if you’re wearing this look, like a leather jacket and trousers, try wrapping one of our 100% silk scarves around your neck for a touch of sophistication.
4. Dress up a sweatsuit
This year some designers took inspiration for their runways from the unofficial quarantine uniform of 2020: sweatsuits. Even Rodarte, typically known for ethereal and feminine designs, presented their take on the sweatsuit trend with a cozy pink suit with “J’aime Rodarte” on the top.
For this trend, it’s pretty simple: wear what you find comfortable! Whether it’s a coordinated set or simply the coziest sweater and sweatpants that you can find in your closet, you can’t go wrong. Want to take advantage of this soul soothing trend, but need to look a little more polished in your next Zoom meeting? Toss one of our cashmere scarves over your shoulders to elevate your outfit while still maintaining peak coziness.
5. Capes
Statement-making capes were spotted on the runway from designers such as Brandon Maxwell, Rodarte, and Jason Wu. When trying out the cape trend, be sure to keep the rest of your ensemble relatively simple to give the cape its chance to shine.
Not ready to commit to a full, dramatic cape? Try repurposing one of our square wrap scarves as a poncho. Simply drape the fabric over your shoulders and secure with a graceful knot, ornate broach, or embellished pin.
6. Feminine Neckwear
This trend was truly made for scarf lovers! This season’s runway saw every kind of neckwear from subtle ribbon neck-ties (Collina Strada) to more dramatic plaid pussycat bows (Tory Burch). To try out this trend, we recommend using one of our long scarf styles such as the Kaleidoscope Long Cashmere-Silk Scarf or the Serenity Long Cashmere-Silk Scarf. Simply drape the scarf on either side of your neck, and experiment with tying it into different bows and knots!
